Nobody can build a great organization alone. The Young Men's Initiative (YMI) Advisory Board oversees the operations and functions of the organization. Our leadership provides a plethora of talent and skill-set that propels YMI forward. 

 

Erica Gonzalez

PresidenT

Tulare County District Attorney's Office

Erica is a Deputy District Attorney with the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office. She has been practicing law for 7 years. She began her career as an attorney with a law firm in Fresno practicing civil litigation. Erica graduated from Orosi High School in 2001 and attended Stanford University. She completed her law degree at UC Davis School of Law. Erica currently lives in Tulare County. She married her high school sweetheart, Alex, who is a second grade teacher in Visalia. They welcomed their first child, Madelyn, last year.

 

Martin Mares

Vice President

IVY League project, USA

Martin currently serves as CEO of the Ivy League Project. He graduated from Parlier High School, Fresno City College, and CSU Fresno. Martin is married to Sulema Quintanilla Mares and have three children. Martin has been recognized as the Fresno County 31st District Assembly Administrator of the Year, Fresno State DanForth Scholar, and Parlier Unified School District Administrator of the Year. He is an active speaker on College Access throughout the United States and has initiated Ivy League Projects in California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida.

 

Sherri Pena

Sherri is a native of Orosi. Graduated in 1978 from Orosi High School as Student Body President, Sherri then attended Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. She obtained her Bachelors of Science from the University of San Francisco and Masters of Science from Golden Gate University in Telecommunications Management where she graduated with honors. Sherri moved to the Bay Area to advance her career and spent 26 years there. Sherri spent 32 1⁄2 years at Pacific Bell (AT&T). She returned to serve as the Business Relations & Development Manager at Peña’s Disposal.

 

Juan Remigio

YMI ALUM

Juan is currently majoring in Physics at Reedley College. He graduated from Orosi High School in 2015, and was the first to participate in the Academy of Health Sciences program. On the weekends, Remigio works at a convalescent home as a nursing assistant and tutors students at the College’s Learning Center. Remigio joined YMI with the purpose to improve the community of Cutler-Orosi.

 

Marianela Fraga

Board Member

Community Services and Employment Training (CSET)                       

Marianela is a Business Resource Specialist II at CSET (Community Service Employment and Training) Marianela is a Registered Dental Assistant who left the field to help the family with a family business 1995. After she attending Reedley College and Fresno State for business management and managed the family business. In 2009 she accepted a position with CSET and is currently working in the Cutler/Orosi area, helping the youth with employment and training.

 

Dr. Kuldip Thusu

Board Member

Alta Family Health Clinic, Inc.

Dr. Thusu earned his Bachelor Honors in Biophysics, his Master’s Honors in Biophysics, Master’s in Clinical Chemistry, and his Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine. His accomplishments in clinical research have included managing the Department of Medicine and Diabetes of Western New York at the Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo, NY. He serves as CEO of Universal BioPharma Research Institute Inc., CEO for Federally Qualified Health Center and Alta Family Health Clinic, Inc. in Dinuba, CA. He also serves on the Dinuba City Council.

 

Fernando UribE

YMI Alum    

Fernando is currently attending CSU Fresno. He is 18 years old and works for Pizza Planet in Orosi, CA. In high school, Fernando led his team to Valley Championship in soccer and received above a 4.0 grade point average. He graduated from Orosi High School in 2015. Fernando is majoring in construction management and hopes to become a project manager of a company one day.
